Frequently asked questions
Where does the weather data come from?
From open scientific datasets and weather services: weather stations via Visual Crossing or the NASA POWER reanalysis, sea temperatures from the NASA MUR satellite analysis (via NOAA ERDDAP). The exact source and type of data are shown with every result.
Is this a weather forecast?
No. We only show what the weather was like during the same period in past years. This helps you judge typical conditions – it does not guarantee the weather for your trip.
What is a rain day?
A day with at least 1.0 mm of precipitation – the usual meteorological definition. Light drizzle below 1 mm does not count.
Why is the sea temperature sometimes missing?
We only show it if an open-sea point can reliably be determined nearby (max. 20 km) and data is available for it. Lakes and inland places get no sea temperature.
